We’re sure you’re also marvelling at how the year has started so quickly, and that April is upon us already! We hope your first quarter has been prosperous and challenging!

For those of you winding down your financial year end, this is a time for reflection and forecasting; evaluating what worked and what didn’t (your Lessons Learned) and looking to the future to anticipate market changes, upcoming trends and setting your goals for the next 12 months. We are sure that the hard work and effort you put in the last 12 months is going to start paying off!

We are also looking ahead for new and exciting opportunities. Read on for more information on our brand new PRINCE 2® Foundation and Practitioner certification courses.

We also branched into the medical field with UNESDA (University-based Nursing Education South Africa) to assist them with the closing process in a number of their projects. We are delighted with the feedback we received from this implementation.

In our featured articles, Robert Kent provides an opinion piece as to whether Agile and Waterfall can coexist. The word “agile” has caught on as a buzzword in the world of product development. The great thing about buzzwords is that they attract a lot of attention. Agile has been touted as the next best thing in the mystical world of project management with many believing that it is the logical replacement for the “older” waterfall method. There is a “however”, in there, as waterfall methods do hold value for certain projects.

Our two day course in Lean Enablers for Managing Complex Engineering Projects will be our first new offering in 2013. We have come to accept that complex engineering projects and programs, means loads of issues, huge bills and massive delays. This course is designed for those projects, program and portfolio personnel and engineers who are willing to take on the challenge to deliver successful projects and programs.

With a new year, comes a new beginning and change. PMI® have launched the updates to the foundation standards - The Project Management Institute’s (PMI®) PMBOK® Fifth Edition, The Standard for Program Management Third Edition and the Standard for Portfolio Management – Third Edition. For all our certification learners, this is important information for you! With the PMBOK® Fifth Edition updates, new exams will be launched from 1st July 2013. If you have not yet written your exam, you will need to do so before PMI launches their new exam. Read on for more information on the PMI® exam launch dates.

Closing Out ‘Project 2012‘

We are sure you’ll all agree that 2012 has been a dynamic and challenging year!

Project implementation has been on the rise and companies have highlighted an increased need for project, program and portfolio management offices, collaboration tools and best practice methodologies to assist in their success.

One of the ways we’ve helped to implement this success is by giving back to the project management community through various conferences and events. One of the highlights of 2012 was being involved in the Project Management Exchange in Harare, Zimbabwe. Read on for more details on the conference and how we were involved.

In our main articles, Bahia Sarlie and Karin Deacon will give you some Tips and Tools on Managing the Human side of Change in projects, and discuss how by implementing effective change management can improve your project success and ROI.

We have trained 100 additional certification learners since last year, and our overall course attendance almost doubled, with us growing and developing 4500 learners in the project management and leadership fields.

We have launched the Agile Project Management (PMI-ACP®) certification this year, which has been received with huge enthusiasm from our clients. The purpose of this certification is to recognize an individual’s expertise in using agile practices in their projects, whilst demonstrating their increased professional versatility through agile tools and techniques. In addition, the PMI-ACP® certification carries a higher level of professional credibility as it requires a combination of agile training, experience working on agile projects and examination on agile principles, practices, tools and techniques. The awesome team at PM.Ideas has been burning the midnight oil and delivering a variety of interventions in the organisational Project Management maturity assessment, individual competency assessment and people development space.

PM.Ideas has been awarded various global and local contracts provide Project Management and Leadership training across the globe. The key objective of these programmes is to equip our client‘s staff with enhanced project management and leadership skills to effectively and efficiently manage a wide range of projects and ultimately improve project performance.

PM.Ideas unique approach to developing competence in individuals caters for a wide variety of training interventions, which include face-to-face training, blended learning (combination of eLearning and face-to-face interventions), eLearning, on-the-job and virtual coaching and mentoring. As a result, PM.Ideas is well positioned to meet the needs of geographically dispersed teams.
